The annual retreat is a yearly two-day production intensive for up to 16 Mezcla members. The annual retreat is designed to provide Mezcla members to be in community and immerse themselves in a specific skill set, and features a high-profile keynote speaker. In the past, Mezcla has had retreats relating to documentary cinematography and screenwriting, with keynotes Lyric Cabral and Jessica King. The topic of the retreat varies from year to year.
Each quarter, Mezcla hosts workshops that provide a deep dive into a timely topic surrounding the film industry. These workshops are facilitated by individuals who are experienced in the topic and are local to Chicago. Topics range based on member needs.
The monthly meet-ups provide a monthly engagement opportunity for members to casually meet up, provide feedback on each other's projects, and network. These switch back-and-forth between both in-person and virtual. Most in-person meetups are happy hours hosted at restaurants around the city. These meet-ups are led by volunteers within the Mezcla community.
Through our Gear Access Program (GAP), we aim to increase accessibility to professional-level equipment and technical resources in our community, especially for BIPOC creatives that often lack these resources. Through hands-on experience and continuing education, Mezcla removes barriers to technical knowledge.
We are a tight-knit community, so there are always opportunities around town to get together. Join us at any of our many Mezcla events.
